Man sentenced to 21 years to life for stabbing death of his mother

A man was sentenced Oct. 22 to 21 years to life in prison for stabbing his mother to death in their Sylmar home. 

A jury found Freddie Sanchez, a 29-year-old Latino, guilty of one count of first-degree murder for killing his mother, Matilde Flores De Sanchez, 58. He was also found guilty of assault with a deadly weapon. 

Freddie Sanchez stabbed his mother with a kitchen knife on March 25  in their home in the 13900 block of Herron Street in Sylmar, according to court testimony from family members who were at the home at the time. The previous evening, Freddie Sanchez had assaulted his father with a radio, according to court testimony. 

Freddie Sanchez also was convicted of a misdemeanor for disobeying a court order for being within 100 yards of his father.
