Mario Andre Lillie, 42

Mario Andre Lillie, a 42-year-old black man, was shot and killed Sunday, April 26, near South Van Ness Avenue & West 43rd Street in Vermont Square, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 10:40 p.m., Lillie was standing next to his four-door sedan hugging and kissing his girlfriend when they heard something, causing them to separate, said LAPD Det. Dave Garrido.

A person opened fire, striking Lillie. The woman was not hurt.

Lillie was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:43 p.m., said Ed Winter, assistant chief of investigations for the coroner’s office.
