Maurice Emmanuel Marshall, 33

Maurice Marshall, a 33-year-old black man, was shot and killed Friday, July 4, in the 600 block of West 50th Street in Vermont Square, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Shortly before 8 a.m., Marshall was standing near a parked vehicle with another man when a light-colored sedan drove by, then made a u-turn, said Los Angeles Police Det. Sal LaBarbera. A person inside the car yelled a gang slogan, and a passenger inside fired several rounds at Marshall and the other man, LaBarbera said.

Marshall was struck by the gunfire. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:09 a.m., said Ed Winter, a coroner’s spokesman. The other man was not injured.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Criminal Gang Homicide Division at (213) 485-4341. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
