Omar Montes-Guerrero, 24

Omar Montes-Guerrero, a 24-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Saturday, March 8, in the 1000 block of South Willowbrook Avenue in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Deputies received a call reporting gunshots about 8:48 p.m. and found Montes-Guerrero face-down on the sidewalk in a residential area, said Lt. John Corina with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Witnesses said that two black males walked up to Montes-Guerrero from behind and fired shots. Corina said authorities did not know if Montes-Guerrero spoke to the alleged assailants before being shot.

Montes-Guerrero was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:06 p.m., said Ed Winter, a coroner’s spokesman.
