A story for every victim

Pedro Salinas Brito, 44

Pedro Salinas Brito, a 44-year-old Latino, was fatally shot by a security guard on Monday, Oct. 1, in the 400 block of West Lumber Street in Lancaster, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Brito and another man walked into a video gaming business around 12:45 a.m. wearing dark masks and wielding hatchets, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Scott Hoglund.

The business' licensed security guard believed they were planning a robbery, Hoglund said, and "in fear of his life" he fired his weapon, striking Brito.

The other robber then fled, Hoglund said.

Brito was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:05 a.m., according to coroner's records. The cause of death was listed as multiple gunshot wounds.

Hoglund said the security guard was questioned but not detained or arrested. No one else was injured, he said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. Those wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
