Ray Lewis Rice, 34

Ray Lewis Rice, a 34-year-old black man, was shot and killed Friday, Feb. 7, in the 5300 block of South Budlong Avenue in Vermont Square, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Rice was standing on the sidewalk when a person shot him, said LAPD Det. Chris Barling. It is unknown whether the gunman was on foot or in a vehicle, Barling said.

Police responded to a shots-fired call and discovered the body.

Rice was pronounced dead at 2:10 a.m. at the scene, said Ed Winter, a coroner's spokesman.
