A story for every victim

Samuel Ramirez, 17

Samuel Ramirez, a 17-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Friday, June 27, near East 6th Street and South Ditman Avenue in East Los Angeles, according to L.A. County coroner’s records.

About 3:30 p.m., deputies responded to a call of shots fired in the area, said Sgt. Steve Jauch with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

When deputies arrived on the scene they learned that Ramirez and a 15-year-old boy were standing on the corner when a four-door white Charger stopped in front of them, Jauch said.

Several men got out of the vehicle and one person opened fire, hitting both Ramirez and the other teenager.

“There’s no indication that they were doing anything, just standing there talking,” Jauch said.

The gunman and the other men got back into the vehicle and sped westbound on East 6th Street, Jauch said.

Ramirez was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4:22 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

The other teenager was treated and is expected to survive.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
