Taurson McMillian, 34

Taurson McMillian, a 34-year-old black man, was shot and killed Saturday, Jan. 4, near the 700 block of West Cressey Street in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

McMillian was driving northbound on North Wilmington Avenue about 6:39 p.m. when he was shot, said Lt. John Corina with the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department.

Witnesses reported hearing gunshots but investigators do not have a suspect or vehicle description, Corina said.

McMillian was pronounced dead at 6:52 p.m. at the scene, said Ed Winter, a spokesman with the coroner’s office.

An autopsy showed that McMillian, of Hawaiian Gardens, died of a gunshot wound, Winter said.

McMillian was the first person to be killed in the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s jurisdiction in 2014, Corina said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
