Robert Acosta, a 20-year-old Latino, was shot and killed early Sunday, March 14, in an alley in the 6000 block of Templeton Street in Huntington Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Authorities responding to reports of an argument followed by gunfire found Acosta with a gunshot wound to his head about 1 a.m., said Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner's office. Acosta was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:16 a.m., Winter said.

 Winter said the shooter apparently fled on foot.

Michael Scott, a 29-year-old black man, was shot and killed Saturday, March 13, in the 11000 block of South Success Avenue in Watts, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Early Saturday morning, paramedics responded to a call of gunfire and found Scott in his apartment suffering from several gunshot wounds, said Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office. Scott was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:31 a.m., according to coroner's records.

Winter said investigators believe that Scott was in his apartment when an unknown assailant or assailants entered and shot him.

Melvin Buford, a 35-year-old black man, was stabbed shortly before midnight Friday, March 12, in the 8800 block of South Vermont Avenue in Westmont and died early the next morning, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Buford was standing outside a liquor store about 11:45 p.m., when he got into a fight that led to his stabbing, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said. He was taken by paramedics to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:39 a.m. on Saturday, March 13, according to coroner records.

Authorities are searching for two black men in connection with the stabbing, but further details were not released. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the sheriff's homicide bureau at (323) 890-5500. Callers can remain anonymous.

Ryan O'Connell, a 29-year-old white man, was shot to death Saturday, March 13, in the 1500 block of West 12th Place in Pico-Union, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

O'Connell was visiting friends late Saturday evening when he got into a dispute and was shot, said Det. John Motto of the Los Angeles Police Department's Rampart Division. Los Angeles City Fire officials were called, and they alerted police. O'Connell was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:54 p.m., according to coroner's records.

Although there were witnesses to the incident, no one has come forward to name a shooter, said Motto.

 Ramon Requena, a 20-year-old black man, was shot and killed Saturday, March 13, in the 600 block of West Venice Way in Inglewood, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Requena was in front of an apartment building about 9 p.m. when he was approached by an unknown assailant and shot, Inglewood Police Sgt. Matthew Hart and Joe Bale of the Los Angeles County coroner’s office said.

According to coroner's records, Requena was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:13 p.m. The incident appears to be a gang-related shooting, authorities said.

Julie Kates, a 46-year-old white woman, died Friday, March 12, a day after she collapsed while waiting for a bus at Sunset Boulevard and Kingsley Drive in East Hollywood, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Kates was waiting at a bus stop about 1:20 p.m. when she suddenly fell to the ground, said Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner's office. Paramedics were called to the scene and she was taken to Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center, where medical personnel discovered a gunshot wound to her right temple, Winter said.

Kates died at the hospital the following night at 8 p.m., Winter said.

Kates’ death is listed as a homicide, although coroner’s investigators have not completed the autopsy. LAPD detectives have not released a statement on the circumstances surrounding her death.

Miguel Gonzalez-Cervantes, a 39-year-old Latino, was stabbed to death Friday, March 12, in the 15300 block of West Washington Avenue in East Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

About 5:30 a.m., Cervantes began fighting with Alejandro Estrella, a 21-year-old Latino, with whom he had been sharing a room with since January, said Det. Ray Lugo of the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau. The roommates had been arguing for several days when the disagreement escalated, Lugo said, and Estrella stabbed Cervantes several times in the upper torso. Estrella then fled.

The owner of the property found Cervantes and called the police, Lugo said. Cervantes was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:39 a.m., according to coroner's records.

Raymond Camberos, a 19-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Thursday, March 11, in the 100 block of West Mines Avenue in Montebello, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Montebello police officers responded to a report of shots fired about 7:16 p.m., according to a department news release.

When officers arrived, they found Camberos lying on the sidewalk on the north side of Mines Avenue. He was treated by Montebello Fire Department paramedics but died at the scene at 7:40 p.m., according to Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner’s office.

Authorities believe Camberos was shot after an altercation in the basketball court area of Reggie Rodriguez Park. The case appears to be gang-related, police said.

Manuel Holguin, a 33-year-old Latino, died Wednesday, March 10, a day after he was shot in the 200 block of North Arizona Street in East Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

About 9:20 p.m. deputies responded to a call of shots fired and found Holguin lying in the street with a gunshot wound to the head, said Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner's office.

Holguin was taken to Los Angeles County USC Medical Center, where he died the next day at 4:58 p.m., Winter said.

Cesar Diaz, a 15-year-old Latino, was killed and a 16-year-old youth was wounded Monday, March 8, in the 11200 block of Dronfield Avenue in Pacoima, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

The two youths were riding their bicycles about  7:15 p.m., when a car pulled up along side them, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Someone in the vehicle asked, "Where are you from?" and then opened fire, Officer Karen Rayner said.

Diaz was pronounced dead at a hospital, Rayner said, and the other victim remains in stable condition.

Juan Rivera, a 46-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Thursday, Feb. 25, in the 22000 block of Cantlay Street in Canoga Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

About 8:30 am., Rivera was in a driveway when he was approached by an assailant and shot several times in the torso and lower extremities, said Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner's office. The assailant then fled.

Authorities were called to the location and Rivera was pronounced dead at 9 a.m., Winter said.

Quincy Tillett, an 18-year-old black man, was shot Sunday, March 7, in the 13000 block of Kornblum Avenue in Hawthorne and died early the next morning, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Witnesses told authorities that they heard two men arguing about 11:35 p.m., then heard gunshots. Police responding to a call found Tillett with a gunshot wound, said Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner's office.

Tillett was taken to a hospital in Inglewood, where he was pronounced dead Sunday at 12:22 a.m., Winter said.

Abraham Rodriguez, a 17-year-old Latino, died Sunday, March 7, after police found him wounded and running near the intersection of Tremont Street and Fair Oaks Avenue in Pasadena, according to authorities.

Rodriguez was spotted by officers about 9:50 a.m., said Pasadena police Lt. Chris Russ. After they discovered that he had been shot, Rodrigez was taken by paramedics to Huntington Memorial Hospital, where he later died. 

His name was initially withheld pending notification of his family.

Police are investigating the involvement of two men seen in the vicinity before the shooting, Russ said. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Pasadena Police Department at 626-744-4241.
