A story for every victim

Juan Martinez, 25

Juan Martinez, 25, was shot at an Arco gas station at 4424 S. Central Ave. in South-Central Los Angeles, and died at 10:29 a.m. Friday, April 13.

Martinez was a construction worker with no ties to gangs or crime. He and his brother had stopped for gas on their way to work at a construction site at about 4:30 a.m. when their attackers shot them, possibly mistaking them for gang combatants or perhaps seeking to rob them.

The brother was also shot in the back, but underwent surgery and is expected to recover. The assailants escaped in a four-door, tan or gold early 1990s Infiniti V30 with tinted windows. If you have seen this car or have any information about this murder, detectives seek your help. Call LAPD Newton detectives at (323) 846-6556.

Update: This case has been cleared. A 17-year-old Latino youth was arrested.
