Dimas Diaz Jr., a 43-year-old Latino, was fatally shot by law enforcement officers on Saturday, Jan. 12, on the 101 Freeway just north of the Las Virgenes Road exit in Calabasas, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner records.
The incident began in the late morning when Ventura County Sheriff's Department deputies went to a home in Camarillo regarding a domestic violence incident, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Scott Hoglund. The alleged assault involved a woman Diaz had been dating, Hoglund said.
When the deputies arrived, Diaz fled in a stolen sedan, Hoglund said, and the deputies got into their car and gave chase, through the city limits of Camarillo. When Diaz drove south on the 101 Freeway, California Highway Patrol officers joined the pursuit.

John Costilla, a 50-year-old Latino, died Monday, March 12, four days after he was shot in the 23000 block of Mulholland Highway in Calabasas, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Costilla was shot March 8 about 7 a.m., said sheriff's homicide Sgt. Sandy Nava, who is handling the case.
After the shooting, authorities were called, and the victim was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, where he remained until his death March 12.
Coroner's records show Costilla died from a gunshot wound to the neck.
Nava said officials arrested Costilla's friend in connection with his death.
Randy Williams, a 57-year-old white man, was originally apprehended March 8 on assault charges, but authorities expect to add the additional charge of murder, Nava said.
Williams is being held at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown L.A. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 22 at the Van Nuys …

On Sunday, Oct. 28, the Kittower family gathered at Silverado Senior Living in Calabasas to celebrate Elmore's 80th birthday. The following Sunday, his wife Rita and daughter Elise came back for their weekly visit.

Hadas Winnick, 55, a white woman, was found dead with multiple stab wounds on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 3821 Declaration Ave. in Calabasas. The coroner listed her time of death as 11:18 p.m.
Her son, a 20-year-old white man, called his sister and warned her not to come home because he had just killed their mother, said Sheriff's Lt. Gil Carrillo. The daughter went to the house and found Winnick dead. The son was arrested and charged in connection with her death.

Barbarita Luna, a 25-year-old Latina woman, was stabbed at 4200 E. Main St. in Ventura. She was later discovered dead of multiple traumatic injuries inside a car in the 24000 block of Calabasas Road in Calabasas at about 9:13 a.m. Friday, May 11. Deputies called to the scene found near the car a Latino man, who was taken into custody.
