Antonio Aguilar, a 33-year-old Latino, was killed Sunday, Nov. 22, after he was shot in Ruben F. Salazar Park in the 3860 block of Whittier Boulevard in East Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records. 

Aguilar, of Palmdale, and his brother, Juan Aguilar, 28, of East Los Angeles, were in the park about 11 a.m., standing between the basketball courts and tennis courts, when they were approached by three people, a heavyset adult Latino, a heavyset adult Latina and a Latino teenager, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Eddie Hernandez. 

The three engaged the brothers "in what's being described as a casual conversation — brief, with no yelling ," Hernandez said, "when the adult male produces a handgun and fires multiple times at both victims."

Kassandra Ochoa, a 21-year-old Latina, died Saturday, Nov. 21,  after she was struck in the head in the 470 block of South Sydney Drive in East Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records. 

Ochoa was seen arguing with her boyfriend, Antonio Medina, about 1 a.m. as they walked into a vacant apartment, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Victor Lewandowski. 

Neighbors contacted the owner of the apartment building, who lived nearby. When the apartment owner walked in, she saw Ochoa lying on the floor bleeding from the head and Medina standing nearby, Lewandowski said. 

The landlord called 911; Medina allegedly fled. 

Ochoa had blunt force trauma to the back of her head, Lewandowski said. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:08 a.m., according to coroner's records. The autopsy is pending. 

Family members have started a fundraising account to help pay for Ochoa's funeral.

Anthony Mercado, a 48-year-old Latino male, died Monday, Nov. 16, after being shot in East Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Gilberto Ramirez, a 14-year-old Latino male, died Saturday, Nov. 7, after being shot in East Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Israel Luna, a 17-year-old Latino, died Friday, Oct. 23, after he was stabbed in the 5000 block of Whittier Boulevard, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records. 

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies were called about 11:10 p.m., said Lt. Steve Jauch. They found Luna lying in the street, next to the curb, with a stab wound in his upper torso, Jauch said.

The block where Luna was stabbed is in a business area, with thrift stores, discount stores, fast-food restaurants and a medical clinic.

Luna was taken to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 11:49 p.m., according to coroner's records. 

Jauch said investigators don't have any suspect information, nor a motive.

Rafael Ruiz Arreguin, a 28-year-old Latino male, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, after being shot in East Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Rocio Lissette Vasquez, a 46-year-old Latina, was shot and killed Monday, Aug. 24, in the 700 block of South Brady Avenue in East Los Angeles, according to investigators from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department homicide bureau. 

Vasquez’s body was discovered by firefighters around 6:45 a.m. as they were putting out a fire in her home, according to a statement from the sheriff’s department. Her badly burned body was found on a futon in one of the bedrooms, where the fire had started. 

Investigators originally believed the fire was accidentally caused by Vasquez smoking in bed, and that she died in the blaze. After the autopsy, however, the Los Angeles County coroner’s office determined Vasquez was killed by a gunshot before the fire being set, according to the release. 

Coroner’s records are not available in this case because of a security hold imposed by the sheriff’s department.

Eduardo Robles, a 38-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Monday, July 6, in the 4300 block of Eagle Street in East Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 7:30 p.m., Robles was standing in the driveway of an apartment complex when he was approached by two Latinos, said Lt. Eddie Hernandez with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Robles got into an argument with the two men that turned physical.

The two men then got into a light-colored compact car and drove away.

Shortly after, they came back in the same vehicle and one of the men got out of the car and opened fire at Robles. The gunman ran east on Eagle Street. The driver of the car fled east on Eagle Street then north on South Humpreys Avenue and out of view.

Angel Roberto Ledesma, a 18-year-old Latino male, died Tuesday, April 14, after being shot in East Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Jesus Manuel Sanchez, a 23-year-old Latino male, died Sunday, April 12, after being shot in East Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Steven Cruz, a 14-year-old Latino, was fatally stabbed Friday, Jan. 23 in the 4700 block of East 4th Street in East Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 3:10 p.m., Cruz was sitting in an open corridor at David Wark Griffith Junior High School when a person, later described as a 13-year-old boy, walked up and stabbed him with an unknown object, said Lt. Holly Francisco with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The assailant was last seen on foot, heading south along South Fetterly Avenue, Francisco said.

“The investigators are just doing interviews now, but we don’t have any indication that there was a fight prior to the stabbing,” Francisco said. “It appears to be an isolated incident.”

Cruz was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 3:48 p.m., said Ed Winter, assistant chief of investigations for the coroner’s office.
