Omar Yousaf Latif, a 25-year-old Latino also known as Omar Yousaf Solano, was shot and killed on Tuesday, Nov. 22, in the 9800  block of Giovane Street in El Monte, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records. 

Latif was near his home, walking in the street toward his parked car, when someone ran up to him and began shooting about 8:53 a.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Sgt. Marcelo Quintero. 

Latif was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:05 a.m., according to coroner's records. 

A fundraising page has been started to help Latif's family pay for his burial. The site describes Latif as a husband and new father, with a 2-month-old daughter. He is one of four siblings and lived in El Monte, according to the site. 

Other people were outside or driving by when the shooting happened, "but most were just concentrating on where they were going," Quintero said. …

Juan Manuel Vidal, a 25-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Friday, Oct. 21, in the 9200 block of Flair Drive in El Monte, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Vidal, a recent pharmacy tech graduate, was working at the drive-through window at a Jack in the Box restaurant about 7:40 p.m. when a man in tan cargo shorts and a mask rolled over the restaurant counter and into the employee area, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Det. Adan Torres said.

The sheriff’s Homicide Bureau had a news conference Thursday afternoon to show short surveillance video of what happened next. Vidal and the gun that killed him are not visible in the video.

The camera captures the suspect, a fair-skinned male, wearing what appears to be a mask representing the video game character Mario, with a bushy mustache, large nose and a blue baseball-style cap with a shiny vinyl brim.

Victor Alfredo Garcia, a 23-year-old Latino, died Saturday, July 9, after he was shot at the intersection of Cogswell Road and Klingerman Street in El Monte, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records. 

Garcia and his 21-year-old brother were driving home from work about 7 p.m. when Garcia got into an argument with at least two Latinos in a black Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Rosson said. 

The brother said the SUV cut them off, Rosson said, and Garcia, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, shouted at the driver. The men in the SUV shouted back, Rosson said, and the incident escalated. 

“It was basically a road rage thing,” Rosson said. 

At some point, the SUV pulled over and a man got out, Rosson said. As the brothers drove by, the man fired one shot that hit Garcia through the open passenger-side window. …
