Jilberto Gutierrez, a 27-year-old Latino, was shot and killed by police Thursday, Oct. 18, in the 500 block of Hardy Street in Inglewood, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said Gutierrez was arrested Oct. 17 on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance.
While being booked at the South Los Angeles station, Gutierrez developed a medical issue and was taken to Centinela Hospital Medical Center, officials said.
At the hospital, Gutierrez had one hand cuffed to a gurney, but authorities said he used his free hand to reach for a deputy’s gun, prompting the shooting, police say.
Gutierrez was pronounced dead at 1:10 a.m.
Like all deputy-involved shootings, the case will be investigated by the department's internal affairs bureau and the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Reginald Owens, a 22-year-old black man, was fatally shot Sunday, Oct. 14, in the 3400 block of West Arbor Vitae Street in Inglewood, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Police believe the incident was a walk-up shooting. Owens was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:44 p.m.

Vyron David Jackson, a 22-year-old black man, was shot and killed Friday, Aug. 31, in the 600 block of West Hyde Park Boulevard in Inglewood, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Jackson, a Hawthorne resident, was pronounced dead at the scene, Inglewood police said. Two other men were taken to hospitals with injuries that are not considered life-threatening, police said.
Police said witnesses told them the victims were walking east on Hyde Park Boulevard about 10 p.m. when armed men -- it was not immediately clear how many -- came up behind them. The gunmen opened fire and all three men were hit. A motive has not been determined.

Alan Harris, a 45-year-old black man, was fatally shot Sunday, Aug. 26, in the 300 block of East Buckthorn Street in Inglewood, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner’s office, said officers found Harris in a planter in the front yard after receiving reports of shots fired.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:28 a.m.
A preliminary coroner's report indicates that Harris sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the left arm and lower abdomen.

Sergio Velez, a 49-year-old Latino, was fatally shot Sunday, July 29, in the 900 block of South Osage Avenue in Inglewood, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Velez was found shot in the head and upper torso about 2:20 a.m., police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
His wife, Elsy Velez, told CBS2 through a translator that her wheelchair-bound husband was especially vulnerable. She said she was sleeping when vandals threw flower pots through the windows "and things were landing all over our heads."
Velez then left the home to look for the vandals, family members told police, and he was shot.

Lynnette Ammons, a 48-year-old black woman, was fatally shot Wednesday, July 18, in the 1100 block of La Brea Avenue in Inglewood, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
According to KABC, officers responded to a 911 call regarding a shooting victim at a store about 3:15 p.m.
When authorities arrived, they discovered Ammons shot several times. Paramedics were called and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
During the investigation, officials learned that prior to the shooting, a man entered the store and began arguing with Ammons. At that point, she was shot and the alleged shooter fled the scene.

Duncan Motoma, a 30-year-old black man, was shot and killed Saturday, June 16, in the 800 block of West Beach Avenue in Inglewood, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Officers responded to a shooting victim call about 8:05 p.m. and found Motoma and another person with gunshot wounds, according to an Inglewood Police Department news release.
Paramedics were called and Motoma was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim was taken to a hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
During the investigation, detectives learned the two victims were exiting an apartment when an unknown person began shooting at them.
The shooter was last seen running north on Beach Avenue, officials said.

Anthony Waterman, a 28-year-old black man, died Saturday, May 26, after he was shot in the 2400 block of West 81st Street in Inglewood, according to the Inglewood Police Department.
Officers responded to a call regarding a shooting victim May 25 about 11:07 p.m., according to an Inglewood Police Department news release.
When authorities arrived, they found Waterman suffering from several gunshot wounds to his head and torso. The victim was taken by paramedics to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
During the investigation, detectives learned Waterman was standing on the driver's side of grey vehicle, talking with the driver, when shots were fired.
No arrests have been made in connection with the case.

Charles Gray, a 65-year-old black man, was stabbed to death Wednesday, May 16, in 900 block of East Fairview Boulevard in Inglewood, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Gray plowed his car into a home about 2:30 p.m., the Inglewood Police Department said.
After the crash, a man in a second vehicle became involved in a confrontation with Gray and stabbed him, police said.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, Inglewood police Lt. Gabriela Garcia said. Coroner’s records show Gray was stabbed in the neck.
Police were investigating whether one of the vehicles was chasing the other and caused the crash.
A man was apprehended by police about two hours after the crash, but authorities have not released his name.

Fredrick Martin, a 28-year-old black man, was shot and killed Tuesday, April 3, in the 3200 block of West 109th Street in Inglewood, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Martin, was cleaning his garage about 7 p.m. with his son and a friend when two assailants approached and opened fire, his family said in a statement. As he shielded the boy, Martin was struck in his upper torso. He died later that evening.
Martin’s son, Frederick III, suffered only a minor graze wound, police said. The friend, the boy's godfather, was shot in the ankle.
Inglewood police Sgt. Dirk Dewachter said detectives were still investigating the incident.
“We don’t close homicide cases,” he said. “We work them until we can exhaust all leads. Sometimes it’s just a matter of being patient until someone who knows something comes forward.”

Julio Lopez, a 31-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Saturday, March 31, near La Cienega Boulevard and Florence Avenue in Inglewood, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Police responded to the scene about 4:30 a.m. and found Lopez with multiple gunshot wounds in a car, said Sgt. Dirk Dewachter.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and the intersection was closed for several hours while police conducted their investigation, he said.
Coroner's records show Lopez was shot in a drive-by. He was struck several times in the head and neck.
