Detwonia Lamond Harris, a 55-year-old black man, was shot and killed Thursday, July 25, in the 6300 block of Woodley Avenue in Van Nuys, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Harris was riding an Orange Line bus that had stopped about 1 p.m., when he was shot, police said.
Authorities identified the suspect as Gerry Dean Zaragoza, a 26-year-old Latino who had embarked on a shooting rampage.
“He didn’t even talk to his last victim,” said Los Angeles police Capt. Billy Hayes, who oversees the robbery-homicide division. “He’s getting off the bus and he turns and shoots the person. It doesn’t look like there was any interaction between them.”
Harris was pronounced dead at 1:10 p.m. at the scene, according to coroner’s records.
