Maximiliano Bernal, a 22-year-old Latino, was pronounced dead on Thursday, Feb. 25, after his body was found at mile marker 7.98 of Sand Canyon Road in Santa Clarita, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Bernal’s body was found after a childhood friend confessed that he killed Bernal and dumped his body just off Sand Canyon Road, Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lt. Eddie Hernandez said.
David Aldana, a 21-year-old Latino, turned himself in at the San Isidro Port of Entry on the United States-Mexico border Feb. 24, Hernandez said.
Hernandez said Los Angeles County investigators met with Aldana the following day and he led them to the place where he left Bernal’s body.
“It was basically off the road somewhat at a vehicle turnout area,” Hernandez said. “We probably wouldn’t have found him unless someone happened on the body.”

Thelma Juaton, a 28-year-old Filipina, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, a day after her car crashed near Mount Emma Road and Angeles Forest Highway in Angeles Crest, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Thelma and her husband, Russel Juaton, were in their car Sept. 21 about 10 a.m. when their vehicle went over a cliff, said Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office.
Sheriff's homicide Det. Peter Heck, who is handling the case, said passersby arrived at the crash scene and contacted authorities. Following the crash, Thelma and Russel were taken by paramedics to a hospital to get treatment for their injuries, Heck said.
According to coroner's records, Thelma suffered blunt head trauma which caused brain inactivity, and she was pronounced dead the next day.
Russel Juaton, a 28-year-old Filipino man, suffered non-life threatening injuries, Heck said.
During the investigation, authorities found two notes in the vehicle indicating the crash …
Ramon Sibrian, an 18-year-old Latino, was found dead Saturday, March 20, north of Mile Marker 13.77 on Little Tujunga Canyon Road, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner's office, said a passerby found Sibrian's body on the side of the road at about 4 p.m. and alerted authorities. When paramedics arrived, they discovered the victim had been shot in the head, the right hand and the left arm, Winter said.
Sibrian was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:15 p.m.

Arnaldo Quinones, a 34-year-old firefighter, died Sunday, Aug. 30, in Tujunga Canyon while he was battling the Station fire. Coroner's officials said his body was burned beyond recognition. They did not list his race.
Quinones and Capt. Tedmund Hall, a 47-year-old white man, were near Fire Camp 16 looking for an escape route through the blaze when their truck went over a hill and crashed, authorities said.
Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner's office, said both men's deaths were listed as homicides because investigators believe the fire was intentionally set. Their cause of death is listed as "multiple traumatic injuries," Winter said.
