Anthony Calderon, a 30-year-old Latino, was fatally shot on Saturday, Oct. 21, near the intersection of East 3rd and South Locust streets in Pomona, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Pomona police received a call about 2:10 a.m. about a stabbing victim and shooting victim in the area, according to Sgt. Brian Hagerty. Officers found Calderon suffering from several gunshot wounds and another victim with multiple stab wounds.

Both victims were transported to the hospital where Calderon died at 4:34 a.m., according to coroner’s records. The stabbing victim had surgery and is stable, Hagerty said.

Police are still looking for a suspect.

My memory of my cousin Anthony was of a smiling and adorable kid with bold eyebrows who turned quickly into a man. That quick transition into to man seemed to create a deep scar of his past that he struggled to cover up. However regardless of the hard lessons learned growing up he maintained an innocence that was there when I knew him as a child. The innocence of making people smile or move past their struggles, even though he had them too and they called to him constantly. His eyes had seen so much sadness, disappointment , and evil, but they still offered hope and optimism for life. He was finally at the start line and ready to run the race towards a better life, especially for his mom, dad and sister and those who never gave up on him. Most recently I saw a post of his new morning routine, before work. Something as simple as buying Starbucks coffee before the start of the day is pretty standard for me and nothing noteworthy, but my life wasn’t like his. I did not spend my young adult life surrounded by concrete walls and forced to live life in a routine in which you had no say in. I wasn’t released back into the same streets from his past and now with new heavier baggage and stronger ties. From this perspective, how was his life supposed to look like post-incarceration? I don’t know the answer. Although, in response to this never ending question to me Anthony folded all of his past into a dream he finally tasted and wanted to chase. To me he lived life the best way he knew how, with 100% motivation for better things and great love for everyone he helped and for his family. I miss you and I hope that for everyone’s lives I heard you touched that they are motivated to live their dreams regardless of the darkness in their past. Love you. I hope you find the dream you were looking for.

My boyfriend, Anthony Calderon, who was fulfilled with QUALITIES of a survivor and a warrior; who was ONE DAY AT A TIME was living a life so joyous and free from a needle (heorine addiction) . That only brought pain, the thrive he had was catching the battle scars and wounds (abscess); were to me his beauty marks in disguise. I am in love on how far he had come and was continuously growing. I prayed EVERY MORNING and EVERY NIGHT that GOD would shield him with his armor; of the Knight and Shinning Armor he intended him his son to be. For he is Gods' chosen one. I remember that I would tell Anthony Calderon, (my now deceased boyfriend) ALL OF THESE THOUGHTS ARE THE REASONS WHY YOU, TO ME, AMAZING, I LOVE YOU BABE AND I MISS YOU TREMENDOUSLY!!
