Armando Diego Guerra, 40

Armando Guerra, a 40-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Monday, Jan. 9, in the 300 block of West 2nd Street in San Pedro, according to police and Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Shortly after 6 p.m., Guerra was standing in the parking lot of the Rancho San Pedro Housing Project when a man walked up and shot him with an assault rifle, said Los Angeles Police Det. Julie Scruggs.

Guerra was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to coroner’s records.

The gunman ran east on West 2nd Street, Scruggs said.

Two days later, Jimmy Flores, a 41-year-old Latino, was arrested on suspicion of murder, according to online Sheriff’s Department records. Flores has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count each of murder, possession of an assault weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Flores, who is due to be arraigned Monday, also faces gang and gun allegations.
