A story for every victim

Arthur Samuel Romero, 51

Arthur Samuel Romero, a 51-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Saturday, Oct. 21, in the 18800 block of Elizondo Street in the South San Jose Hills area of the San Gabriel Valley, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Investigators have very little information about what happened the night Romero and another man, Roberto Diaz, 32, were shot and killed outside a home at 7:49 p.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Derrick Alfred.

“It looks like there was a party at the house, but by the time deputies got there, everybody had left, except the decedents on the ground. ... They all just bugged out,” Alfred said.

The home's owners told investigators they had a social gathering and had heard the gunfire, but they didn’t see the shooting or what precipitated it, Alfred said.

Romero, who lived in Covina, was found lying on the sidewalk outside the house, Alfred said. Diaz, who lived in Pomona, was found lying in the driveway of the house.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene, according to coroner’s records. Diaz was pronounced at 8:22 p.m. Romero was pronounced dead at 8:23 p.m.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. Those wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
