Bradley Kavika Hanaway, 34

Bradley Kavika Hanaway, a 34-year-old white man, was found dead Monday, Jan. 14, in the 7100 block of Whitsett Avenue in Valley Glen, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 9 a.m., officers from the Los Angeles Police Department responded to a call of a shooting at Whitsett Fields Park, according to a news release from the department.

Hanaway was discovered by paramedics with gunshot wounds in the parking lot and was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:10 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Detectives said that Hanaway was a “known transient” who resided in the area.

LAPD Det. Dave Peteque said that Hanaway was in a park claimed by gang members.

“They shot him for no reason,” Peteque said of the suspects, adding that those who went inside the park were subject to violence and harassment.

Luis Gonzalez, 19, and Edwin Martinez, 21, both Latinos, each face one count of criminal street gang conspiracy, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Gonzalez has also been charged with one count of murder with gang and gun allegations. Martinez faces one count of accessory after the fact, prosecutors said.

Both Gonzalez and Martinez pleaded not guilty to the charges Feb. 19. The men are due back in court March 26.
