A story for every victim

Caroline Purviance, 61

Caroline Sue Purviance, a 61-year-old white woman, was found dead Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, in the 5600 block of Mason Avenue in Woodland Hills, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Officers responded to a single-family home shortly before 8:30 p.m. and found Purviance in a bedroom, said LAPD Det. Dave Peteque.

She was pronounced dead at 8:30 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Police believe Purviance’s body had been in the bedroom for about 24 hours. Coroner's records state an autopsy showed that Purviance died of a gunshot wound to the head.

Investigators later found that Laura L. Purviance, contacted her mother Feb. 13 and asked her for a ride somewhere, Peteque said. After they ran the errand, the two walked inside the daughter’s bedroom.

As the mother played with her cell phone with her back turned toward her daughter, she was shot, Peteque said.

Laura L. Purviance, was arrested Feb. 15 near Medford, Ore., on suspicion of killing her mother.

“Laura did not get along with several members of her family,” Peteque said. “Her and her mother had a bad relationship.”
