Craig Cooper, 53

Craig Cooper, a 53-year-old black man, was killed in a drive-by shooting at 1926 W. Jefferson Blvd. in Jefferson Park about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12.

According to police, Cooper was walking on the sidewalk when a white vehicle heading east on Jefferson Boulevard pulled up next to him. Someone inside opened fire, striking Cooper several times. The car continued east, then headed north on St. Andrews Place.

Cooper was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:08 p.m.

Craig Cooper was murdered by 18th street gang members one month before Jamiel Shaw. It is comforting to know that Shaw's murderer has been convicted and awaiting sentencing. I pray that the LAPD homicide does not forget about the murder of Craig.

Craig is my relative. His dad and his aunt (his dads sister), fought to his murders brought to justice during the same time as Shaw. Unfortunately, Craig's dad and his aunt have now passed.

Please, do not give up on finding the killers of my cousin. Craig was a very important to his family and will always be. I know that the community asked for the help of finding the killer of Jamiel and included Craigs murder in that search.

I am asking for the LAPD not to forget about Craig. His murder is as important now as it was then. Please continue to find his killers.

I will always remember Craigs beautiful spirit. He will always be in my heart. I want everyone to know that every victim still has a family that loves and cares for them and doesn't want them forgotten. God Bless all the families who still mourn the unsolved murders of their loved ones!
