David Wayne Carter, 47

David Carter, a 47-year-old black man, was shot and killed Monday, June 6, in the 4100 block of Harvard Boulevard in Vermont Square, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office, said Carter was brought into the emergency room with a gunshot wound to the chest about 12:01 a.m.

He was treated and was pronounced dead at 2:35 a.m., he said.

Winter had no other information about the events leading up to the shooting.

I am hurt and very sad about the death of my brother,David Carter. I know that he did not deserve to die the way he did. He was a good, caring, loving individual who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. It is painful for me and my family to know that my brother's life was taken from him a few nights ago and we did not even get to say good-bye. To my dear brother David, I want to say "we love you whole heartedly, and we will never forget your smile, willingness to help others, and your kind gentle ways!!!" We hate that your life was taken, and we pray that God will make sure that who ever took your life will be bought to justice. Rest in peace and know that we will always hold you near and dear in our hearts, souls, and minds!!!! My heart continues to ach; my body is numb, and I feel so empty because someone stole the life of my brother from me.... Rest In Peace, dear brother, David. I love you.....
