Dawn Frances McEveety, 19
Dawn Frances McEveety, a 19-year-old Latina, was found dead from shotgun wounds on Sunday, Nov. 29, in the 8600 block of Bradwell Avenue in the West Whittier-Los Nietos area, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Investigators were called to the scene when residents in the quiet neighborhood reported an abandoned vehicle. When deputies came to investigate about 1:10 p.m., they could smell the odor of a decomposing body inside, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Dave Coleman.
Deputies found a large ice chest in the rear cargo area of the car, Coleman said, and when they opened it up, they found McEveety's 5-foot-1 body inside.
McEveety was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:20 p.m. with multiple gunshot wounds, according to coroner's records.
The car, a red 1991 Toyota Celica Hatchback, was reported stolen from the Los Angeles area earlier in the week, Coleman said. The neighborhood where it was abandoned "is an off-the-track residential area, with one way in and one way out, just off the 605 Freeway," he said.
McEveety used in live in Huntington Beach, but she left her family home in 2014, Coleman said, and not much is known about where she lived after that.
"She's had a couple of drug-related arrests in Fullerton, Santa Ana and Buena Park, but they were all misdemeanor stuff, for possession and paraphernalia, nothing major," Coleman said.
