Dennis Tillet, 25

Dennis Tillet, a 25-year-old black man, died Wednesday, July 4, after being shot in the 4800 block of 2nd Avenue in Hyde Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Tillet was injured during a gang-related shooting about 10:30 p.m.

According to police, five men, including Tillet, were standing in front of a residence when a white SUV drove past and someone inside opened fire.

Tillet was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound to the torso.

Four others were hospitalized in stable condition.

I heard about Dennis Tillet's passing about 2 years ago in 2013. I am still VERY shocked and saddened by this horrible ignorant act of violence. I met Dennis back in elementary school. I remember how sweet and kind he was around me and his peers. He was so polite and respectful. He use to always give my mother and I a hug after school:-) He was a kid with a big heart and the most beautiful smile that can light up a dark room. He always made me feel so happy whenever I was down. I wish I would have kept in contact with him after elementary school; it would have been great to have continued our friendship. I miss you dearly Dennis. May you R.I.P. God bless you and your family. I am so sorry for your loss.
