Deontra Lornell Phillips, 36

Deontra Phillips, a 36-year-old black man, was shot and killed Sunday, Sept. 22, in the 600 block of West 111th Street in Vermont Vista, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office.

About 10:15, Phillips was sitting in a parked dark-colored sedan when a person shot him, said Los Angeles police Det. Supervisor Rick Gordon. Gordon said it is unknown whether the shooter was on foot or in another vehicle.

Phillips was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:51 p.m., said Ed Winter, a coroner’s spokesman.

Police are unsure if the incident is gang-related, and no arrests have been made.

I have been looking for you every since I paroled and wondered why you haven't pulled up on Compton avenue I even looked to see if u were behind enemy lines (prison) and today I ask about you to hear this hurtful b.s I was going to the lanes today tell him that his crip is looking for him :/ Deontra you will be missed and what's crazy is what I use to cry to u about and ask u to squad up with me in reference to my bro got me ready to go about u dam I love u . It was truly an honor to blessed with an opportunity to know u although we Sported two different flags I learned a few valuable things from. Thank you for being a real one in my life to tell me when I was doing too much, moving wrong and wreaklesss. Thank you for being a loyal friend it's crazy because u saved my life one night when I was going to kill my whole set and hopefully got killed in the process but u reminded me of my kids and grandmother. you saved a few lives that night lol but I love u and miss you respectfully your lil crip SHORTY (Lynwood) dam wish u could pull up on Compton ave to see my grand daughter
