Deverrin Jackson, a 43-year-old black man, was shot and killed Thursday, Nov. 10, in the 19600 block of Sherman Way in Reseda, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

The attack took place about 6 p.m.

Jackson was struck at least once in the chest when a gunman fired multiple rounds at him, the Los Angeles Police Department said. The assailant then ran away.

Officer Bruce Borihanh said that after the shooting, Jackson was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

It was unclear what sparked the incident.

My brother didn't deserve this.

Neither of us were raised to use guns. Neither of us ever got into gangbanging and violent crimes. It's true he may not have had the most socially illustrious past on paper. But to those who knew him well past those printed words he was a kind-hearted, friendly, fun-loving goofball who loved his family more than anything and appreciated even the little things in life more than most of us do because he knew what it was like to have the privilege to live it freely taken away.

It may sound cliche, but he was in the process of making some very positive changes in his life. He wanted to open his own tattoo studio. He wanted to give me tattoos for years, but I always told him I was waiting to lose some weight. Now I'll never get the chance to have one of the beautiful reminders of his presence on this earth as a memory...

He's not just "a black man - the victim of violent street crime". He was a father, a son, a nephew, a cousin, a friend, and a brother. Mr brother loved being the "life of the party"....and he honestly had the BEST smile of anyone I have ever seen.

Grew up in Detroit and moved here in his high school years. He was gunned down in the Valley he lived in practically his entire life. I was told that he was having a casual conversation on the corner with someone wearing a hoodie (was also told a fedora?) and that it wasn't a heated exchange in any way. Then this coward pulled out a shotgun and fired on my only brother multiple times and ran away like the coward that he is. My bro had 2 pass away alone without any of the ppl he loved and who loved him back dearly by his side.

NOTHING about what happened is just or right. I was informed by detectives 5 DAYS LATER even though he was instantly identified. This person meant to kill my brother, not wound or injure.

MY MOTHER NOW HAS TO BURY HER 1ST BORN?!?!?!....and his daughter no longer has her dad.

If ANYBODY knows ANYTHING that can help in the capture of the individual that did this, please step forward...or make the tip anonymous, I don't really care. I just need to know why....why did he take my big bro away from me?? Why couldn't he be a man and use hands like we do??? Why can't I ever speak 2 my brother again??????? Why did he go through a life of mostly nothing but pain, only to get through it all and have it end like THIS?!?!?!?!? WHY???

Jay, I love u forever and I'm sorry I couldn't be there for u like I should've been. We had differences, but I know beyond a doubt that we both loved each other more than anything and would do anything for one another. We're gonna look after ur lil girl and make sure she knows her daddy will always be watching over her. I'm beyond heartbroken that ur gone and so is everyone else. I hope u know how much u were loved....rest in paradise bro, I'm gonna miss u always.....

Deverrin was a man with the heart of a Lion and the son of the Most High God. He loved his family, had a wonderful smile, a sense of humor, and was a great graphic/tattoo artist and could put a beat and rapp together that was amazing. He tried, like most Black men, to make ends meet, but they sometime just waved at one another, but he kept going. He had mole hills and mountains but met each challenge.
The reports tell of a Black man who had incidents with the law. Fact, there were incidents Fact, who says the arrest were justified. Please don't let the media turn this into just another black man that had issues with the law ..killed ..oh well. Fact he was murdered on November 10th, why was his family not notified until a week later. Deverrin is absent from the body, but present with the Lord.

If anyone can offer the family and friends of Deverrin Jackson any information that would lead up a road of revelation and capture instead to a brick wall, please come forth.

There is someone running and hiding from this horrific crime that was committed in that area, that person may be your friend or your loved one. Fact that person is a murderer, You could be next.
