A story for every victim

Diana Garcia, 17

Diana Garcia, a 17-year-old Latina, was fatally shot Wednesday, Sept. 21, in the 200 block of Market Street in Inglewood, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting about 10:52 a.m. at the Inglewood Optometry Center, according to a police statement.

Witnesses told police that a woman, later identified as Garcia, had been shot and a man was barricaded inside the business.

Authorities were able to remove Garcia, who had sustained a gunshot wound to her upper body. She was taken to a hospital where she later died.

A SWAT team entered the building about 1:30 p.m. and found Christopher James McLeish's body inside. McLeish, 26, appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a bathroom.

Police said the motive for the shootings had not been determined, but Garcia and McLeish knew each other.

Police ask that anyone with information about the incident call the Inglewood Police Department at (310) 412-5246. Anonymous tips may be made at (888) 41-CRIME or (888) 412-7463.
