Hoover Darnell Carter

Hoover Darnell Carter, a 56-year-old black man, was shot and killed Friday, April 25, in the 700 block of Isis Avenue in Inglewood, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 6:40 a.m., Inglewood police officers were called to the area and found Carter, who had been shot in the upper torso, according to a news release from the department.

Carter was pronounced dead at 6:44 a.m. at a hospital.

Investigators believe that Carter was involved with an argument with Sherman Lee moments before the shooting. Witnesses said Lee was seen fleeing the location after the killing, according to the release.

Lee was arrested in connection with the killing on June 18, his 54th birthday. Lee, who is black, has been charged with one count of murder and one count of criminal threats according to a criminal complaint provided by the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office. Lee pleaded not guilty to the charges June 30, a spokeswoman said.

He is being held on $1 million bail.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Inglewood Police Department at (310) 412-8771. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
