Elmer Orlando Chavez-Ruiz, 37

Elmer Orlando Chavez-Ruiz, a 37-year-old Latino, died Wednesday, March 27, after he was assaulted in the 400 block of West 104th Street in Vermont Vista, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

On March 23 about 4:45 p.m., Chavez-Ruiz got into a dispute at a motel and was struck with a blunt object, said Los Angeles police Det. Nathan Kouri.

Detectives are still determining what the fight was about, police said. Chavez-Ruiz was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead four days later at 8 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

The incident is not believed to be related to gangs or gang activity.
