Esteban Efrain Martinez, 18

Esteban Efrain Martinez, an 18-year-old Latino, died two days after he was shot Sunday, Aug. 4, in the 2000 block of Pennsylvania Avenue in Boyle Heights, according to L.A. County coroner’s records.

Martinez was standing at 4:50 p.m. in an open parking lot area in the back of a duplex with other people when he was shot, LAPD Det. Supervisor Jose Ramirez said.

Martinez was taken to a hospital and died Aug. 6 at 3:40 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

I’m so heartbroken coming here to read the story about my brothers tragedy. It has been 7 years but it still hurts like this just happened yesterday. I really hope one day there really is justice for my brother. It’s NOT normal to die in that way, we shouldn’t accept it! We do not understand why it doesn’t stop! The damage those murderers caused is unforgivable. People say so many good things after people pass, because it’s the nice thing to do. But my brother was different even when he was alive people loved him and had great things to say about him. He was such a beautiful soul. He was just perfect! Such a loving person and kind no matter the situation he never seemed to get bother by it. He was such a great kid, he worked hard, he loved hard, and most importantly he was raised RIGHT! He had a family who loved him he was loved by all his friends, teachers, neighbors, everyone that knew him. I’d always tell him he was my favorite little brother (he’d laugh because he was the only little brother I had) he was not only my brother but he was my best friend. He always had this beautiful smile on his face, he was so caring and respectful and I will remember him that way forever. He truly is missed!! Our lives stopped the day they took him from us. It’s hard to accept that he’s gone. No one deserves to die this way. So please if anyone out there knows anything please help us out.
