A story for every victim

Felton Millage Jr., 47

Felton Millage Jr., a 47-year-old black man, was shot and killed Thursday, Aug. 7, in the 500 block of West 74th Street in Vermont Knolls, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Millage was standing in the driveway of a two-story home with a group of men shortly after 8:15 p.m., when a black man in his early 20s approached and pulled out a gun, said LAPD Det. Sal LaBarbera.

The gunman struck Millage and a 38-year-old man.

Millage was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:50 p.m., said Ed Winter, a coroner’s spokesman.

The 38-year-old was in stable but critical condition, LaBarbera said.

The gunman fled east on West 74th Street.

At the shooting site the next morning, a woman named Tisha who declined to give her last name pointed to the side of the home, riddled with five bullet holes.

“We just washed up the blood this morning,” she said.

That morning, Millage was supposed to attend the funeral of his nephew, Irvine Barner Jr., Tisha said.
