A story for every victim

Gabriel Castillo, 24

Gabriel Castillo, a 24-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Monday, Jan. 30, near Mauretania Street and Watson Avenue in Wilmington, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

[Editor's note: Castillo's death was not included in the Homicide Report earlier this year. His death was added to the database after the Los Angeles Times learned of his killing from a reader.]

Castillo, Carlos Regalado, a 27-year-old Latino, and a third person were reported down after multiple gunshots were fired late Monday, not far from a junkyard, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Castillo and Regalado were pronounced dead at the scene. The third victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

It was unclear what sparked the violence, but investigators at the scene were exploring possible gang connections.

Officer Karen Rayner told the Daily Breeze, "Three people were walking down the street when they were shot by someone in a car.”

“The suspects in the shooting were described as two young male Hispanics, driving a white, four-door, compact sport utility-type vehicle," said Sgt. Richard Gabaldon of the Harbor division. He told the Daily Breeze, "But that's all we have so far."

Anyone with information about the fatal shooting is asked to call the LAPD's Harbor Division at (310) 726-7700. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
