Samuel Mendez Guerra, 17

Samuel Guerra, a 17-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Sunday, Jan. 15, near San Fernando Road and Vineland Avenue in Sun Valley, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Officers responded to a call regarding an assault with a deadly weapon about 2:08 a.m., according to an LAPD news release.

When authorities arrived, they discovered Guerra, of Los Angeles, with a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Coroner's records show the victim suffered several more gunshot wounds to his body.

During the investigation, detectives learned Guerra was involved in a fight with a person, which led to the shooting. Authorities do not have a description of the assailant or assailants.
