Jade Rizo-Soto, 41 [Updated]
Jade Rizo-Soto, a 41-year-old Latina, was found stabbed to death Monday, Oct. 11, in the 400 block of South Virgil Avenue in Westlake, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Rizo-Soto's apartment manager was told by tenants that water was running in her bathroom, said Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office.
When the manager went to the apartment, he found Rizo-Soto in the bathtub, completely submerged in water. He called authorities, and she was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:43 p.m.
Rizo-Soto died from sharp force trauma to the neck and face, according to coroner's records.
The Times has contacted investigators to get more information about the case and will provide an update as soon as possible.
[Update Nov. 16: LAPD Olympic homicide Det. John Skaggs said Rizo-Soto's body was not found by the manager, but by police. The manager suspected foul play and called authorities, he said. Police arrived at the victim's home and found her body in the bathtub about 6:15 p.m.
At the time of her death, Rizo-Soto was living by herself.
Skaggs said there were two arrests made in connection with her death: Kelly Mungui Orante, a 22-year-old Latino, and Carlos Figueroa, an 18-year-old Latino. The two have each been charged with murder, he said. Skaggs declined to disclose the relationship between Rizo-Soto and the two suspects, but he revealed that the killing was prompted by a dispute.
The investigation and subsequent arrests were spearheaded by Det. Ernesto Ignacio, said Skaggs, who credited the investigator with solving the case.
Orante and Figueroa are being held at the North County Correctional Facility in Castaic in lieu of $1-million bail. Their next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 1 at the Los Angeles Municipal Court.]
