Javier Rivera, 17

Javier Rivera, a 17-year-old Latino youth, was shot repeatedly at 6151 Prospect Ave. in Maywood and died at 8:53 p.m. Jan. 31. Sheriff's detectives called this killing a dispute over tagging territory.

The suspect, Salvador Rodriguez, a 19-year-old Latino man and alleged member of a tagging crew, lived two blocks from victim Rivera, and the pair have known each other all their lives. Detectives said Rodriguez walked up to Rivera, who was standing in a driveway with friends, and shot him.

Rodriguez is not in custody, detectives said. He may be driving a white Honda Accord. Anyone with information is asked to call Sgt. Charles Morales, Sheriff’s Homicide, (323) 890-5500.
