Jeremy Bloodworth, a 25-year-old black man, was shot and killed Thursday, Oct. 21, in the 12600 block of South Harvard Boulevard in Athens, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Jeremy’s parents, Gladys and John Bloodworth, got into an altercation with each other at their home at about 2:30 a.m., said Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office.

Jeremy Bloodworth got involved in the fight, and John shot him and Gladys, Winter said.

Authorities were called, and mother and son were pronounced dead at the scene. According to coroner’s records, Gladys, a 64-year-old black woman, suffered a gunshot wound to the face, and Jeremy sustained a shot to the head.

Soon afterward, deputies from the L.A. County sheriff's Lennox station, arrested John Bloodworth, a 65-year-old black man. The Los Angeles County district attorney's office charged Bloodsworth on Monday with two counts of murder.

His arraignment is scheduled Nov. 15 at the Inglewood Municipal Court. He currently is being held without bail at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown Los Angeles.

Mrs. Bloodwoth & Jeremy Bloodworth.

They were both wonderful, kind, sweet thoughtful, polite people that they have both known me for twenty years. They were the type of people who always been in my life as well as my parents, and touch my heart through out my life, in many special occasion that they supported me and came to different events that I had going live at many location.

They always treated me as they little brother, and showed me love every time that I see the both of them. You both are in heaven in peace, with our heavenly father, while the both of you looking down of all the people you have touch and were and still am truly admire by, and I am glad enough to say I was one of them. I will continue to hang in there strong as you both have been watching me grow up as a baby, into an responsible, highly intelligent young man grown adult * Tears*

This article caught my attention as it presents some very interesting issues.

What a horrible tragedy for Jeremy's daughter to lose both her father and grandmother. If Jeremy currently has a wife, she would automatically inherit from him if Jeremy had no will/trust. If Jeremy does not have a wife (it is not clear from this article or from the posts), then hope Jeremy's daughter (according to the first post, Jeremy has a daughter) is well provided for, as the daughter would inherit from Jeremy. Even if Jeremy is no longer married (or was never married) to the mother of his daughter, it is irrelevant under California law. Jeremy's spouse/daughter would receive, for example, his bank account, final paycheck, etc.. IN ADDITION to assets originating from Jeremy, Jeremy's spouse/daughter would also get whatever Jeremy would have received from Jeremy's mother (Gladys) (Jeremy, and thus, his wife/child, would still inherit from his mother, even though he died around the same time as his mother) or from any other parent or certain family member(s) of Jeremy (now or in the future). The inheritance from Jeremy's mother (Gladys) (through Jeremy) to Jeremy's survivor(s) is what makes this case very interesting as it is sometimes overlooked even by those directly involved. Hopefully, Jeremy's wife or child is aware of their legal rights. It would be doubly tragic if they are unaware of their rights.
