Jerome Allen Willis, 35

Jerome Allen Willis, a 35-year-old black man, was fatally wounded Wednesday, June 5, in the 3900 block of South St. Andrews Place in the Exposition Park neighborhood, according to L.A. County coroner’s records.

Willis was walking with his girlfriend north on St. Andrews Place toward 39th Street shortly after 11 p.m. when the woman saw two people described as black men wearing dark clothing, said Det. Dave Garrido with the Los Angeles Police Department's Southwest Division.

As Willis and his girlfriend approached the corner, one or two men started shooting. The woman, who was not wounded, turned and ran in the other direction. Willis was chased down the street, Garrido said.

Willis was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:43 p.m., coroner’s records show.

It is unclear whether one or two shooters were involved in his death, Garrido said.
