Jonathan Escobar, a 16-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Saturday, Nov. 20, in the 8200 block of Somerset Boulevard in Paramount, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

[For the record at 2:39 p.m. Nov. 26: An earlier version of this post, which was based on the coroner's preliminary report, listed Jonathan's age as 14. He was 16.]

Deputies received a call of shots fired at 11:49 p.m., according to a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department news release. When deputies arrived, they found Jonathan in a driveway suffering from several gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

Detectives later learned that Jonathan was standing in the driveway when he was approached by four Latinos and shot. Authorities said the assailants were last seen running west on Somerset Boulevard.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the sheriff's homicide bureau at (323) 890-5500. Tipsters who would like to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.

I’m glad they posted the homicide report in the comments, so everyone can see the cowards names that were all involved. The females didn’t get jail time but they should’ve. One day, we’ll get street justice.
I’m glad that the piece of shits that killed you are rotting in prison and I hope they stay there. And to guy defending his brother in these comment whose in prison for this and says “he didn’t do anything”, I hope your brother rots in prison and I hope his appeal gets denied every time.

I can't believe people always have some type of stupid crap to say, murder will always be murder. Gangmember or not, Tagger or not...families loose someone they love to the fullest. People act like they're God to judge someones life. He was only 16... people act like they werent doing stupid shit at that time...no one in this world is perfect, but I tell you one thing, bet those people spewing hate comments and judging will reep what they sow and I hope to God they never come to find out what it feels like to loose someone unexpectedly. its been 8 years and I still cry for my nephew, I still feel the same pain of rushing to the hospital at 3 am not knowing what was gonna happen. I still see my mom falling to the ground in the middle of the hospital as my brother cried telling us our cacheton was gone... like wtf...

He was a child and someone murdered him...who cares if he made mistakes , we all do. To the family my condolences. To the people who blame the victim or his parents I say to you" It is easy to live somewhere else and see a clear path out of gangs, but the reality is ,there is more to it then walking away." The gangs don't just go away when you refuse to join them, they don't say " oh , you don't want to bang, okay go on about your way" , No , they keep on jumping you, following you, harassing your family and they will kill you for Not being in a gang. My condolences go out to the family i know what it feels like to loose someone so prescious and dear to you i lost my brother to cowards with guns in front of my house on august of this year. All i can really say is that the monsters that did this will get there punishment they deserve if not in this life but the next. And also being a man of god that i am i know your son is in heaven watching down on you and your family regardless of the mistakes he has made he is in heaven with the rest of gods angels. And know that the monsters that had a hand in his death will have a seat waiting for them in hell. Let the detectives work on finding who did this the truth will come out sooner or later. It did for my brother i hope you find comfort in these words may god and his angels continue to comfort you and your family through this difficult time. God Bless!

Well Jonathan was my friend & i went too school with both of his brothers , YEA i heard that he was part of a gang but i dont believe it he was too sweet , lovinq & carinq for that to be true when i found out about it i continued too say "its not true , its not true , it must be another jonathan" untill i seen in lovinq memory & his picture on a flyer it made me cry bcause this is a kid i knew to be funny & he could just make a whole crowd burst into lauqhter , so for the people who just randomly speak out without knowinq anythinq about him is pointless i lived right in the back of him even my mom got sad about the whole situation he was very helpful & i loved that kid dearly , too his mom i am prayinq for you & your family & your son is in a better place , just know that in this world he left somethinq good that we all can share "Goodbyes are not forever , Goodbyes are not the end , they simply mean i loove u untill we meet again !

I read your comments on here, on a regular basis. I'm beginning to think you are as ignorant as the "gangbangers" you talk about--even the ones who can't even spell simple english. How dare you question a mother who has lost a child. I am a teacher in the city of Paramount, and I have taught more than one student with this name. Knowing this, there is a big chance people are just spouting off at the mouth!
And besides that, I am tired of the people on here whose comments elude to the opinion that just because someone "may be or may not be" in a gang, they deserve to be killed!! Murder is the highest offense, no matter WHO the victim. And no one deserves to have their son shot in front of their home.
These comment boards are not for your told-you-so, spiteful attitude. They are for people to pay their respects.
