Jonixer Chavez-Ramirez, 24
Jonixer Chavez-Ramirez, a 24-year-old Latino, was fatally shot Monday, Nov. 28, in the 4400 block of Sinova Street in Montecito Heights, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records and police.
Shortly before 7:30 p.m., Chavez-Ramirez was standing with a group of friends in the driveway of a home when two rounds were fired, said Los Angeles Police Det. Jose Ramirez.
Chavez-Ramirez was struck once and taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to coroner’s records.
Detectives said they don't know whether the shots were fired by a person on foot or in a vehicle.
So far, Ramirez said, there’s nothing to indicate why Chavez-Ramirez would be targeted, as he and his friends had “no association whatsoever” with street gangs.
“It’s a big whodunit,” he said. Police are looking for additional witnesses.
