Jose Jorge Hernandez Serrano, 64

Jose Jorge Hernandez-Serrano, a 64-year-old Latino, died Tuesday, July 24, after he was assaulted near West Manchester and South Normandie avenues in Manchester Square, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

On Sunday, July 22, at 8:20 a.m., Hernandez-Serrano was waiting for a bus with his wife when he was pushed by a pedestrian, said Los Angeles police Det. Chris Barling.

Hernandez-Serrano fell and hit his head, requiring hospitalization. He was pronounced dead two days later, on July 24 at 9:09 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Hernandez-Serrano died from blunt force head trauma, records show.

Adrian Keith Somers, a 24-year-old black man, has been charged with one count of murder and one count of assault, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Somers pleaded not guilty Sept. 10 and is due back in court Nov. 19.

Barling said that Somers did not know Hernandez-Serrano and that the attack was random.
