A story for every victim

Juan Padilla, 17

Juan Padilla, a 17-year-old Latino, was found dead Friday, May 9 in the 2100 block of Ramsey Way in Pomona, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Police were called to the home shortly before midnight May 8, and found Padilla along with his 23-year-old sister, Maryann, and his mother, Manuela, 52, shot to death.

The 28-year-old gunman, whom police have not identified, was dating Padilla’s sister and was found dead at her feet.

Maryann had planned to break up with the man the night of the shootings. He was living with the family, but Maryann’s mother wanted him to move out because he was jobless, didn’t go to school and was a burden.

“I know my mom wanted him out,” said April Mejia, 30, Manuela’s daughter.  “She got fed up – asked him to leave.”

Juan, along with his sister and mother, were pronounced dead at 12:16 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

The family was known for being friendly but private. They had recently remodeled their home and added a waist-high brick wall lining the yard.

Juan Padilla was a junior at Palomares Academy of Health Sciences and was interested in engineering.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Pomona Police Department at (909) 620-2085. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
