Kirk Winter, 53

Kirk Winter, a 53-year-old white man, was fatally shot Sunday, Feb. 6, in the 900 block of West 1st Street in Pomona, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Authorities responded to a call of a “victim of a shooting” about 2:30 a.m., according to a Pomona Police Department news release.

Paramedics arrived and Winter was taken to a hospital where he died a short time later, police said. According to coroner's records, Winter was shot in the chest, shoulder area and back of his right leg.

Officials have not made any arrests in connection with the case. The motive and identity of the shooter remain unknown.

Hello to the family and friends of Kirk Winter. I am the senior page administrator for a FaceBook page called, POMONA, LET'S TAKE OUR HOMETOWN BACK.

We are doing tributes of all of those lost to the violence in Pomona. In addition we are a group that is asking for an investigation of the city administration of Pomona, including the mayor's office, city council and police department. We want to know why the violence is so prevalent and very few of the murders are being solved.

I will always remember the day I met you many years ago. You were riding your motorcycle with your beloved Queensland Healer “Gurtie” perched up front. The wind was in your hair and the sun shining on your face. This is how I see you now and will hold your memory in my heart.

I would think of you throughout the years and ask God to bless you with the love and kindness you gave to me and my son. You made a profound difference in our lives and we were blessed to have known you.

I loved you. I still do.

Rest well and ride free until we see each other again.

You have with you the love of all the lives you touched with your gentle easy way.You will be remembered with love and comforting memories.

My deepest condolences to your family and friends. I know what we have lost. I feel deeply what has been taken from us and my heart is just broken.

Kirk was my friend for many many years. I was blessed to have seen him for his birthday a couple of days prior.

My fondest memories of Kirk was when Katrina hit New Orleans He packed up a few of his things and went out there to help in anyway he could. He Stayed out there for months.

I could listen to him talk for hours and that says a lot because its hard to get me to give someone else the opportunity to speak.

He talked about working with horses and that was what he always really wanted to do again. He instead chose to stick around and befriend a whole bunch of needy people he called FRIEND.

He was a great man and he will be sorely missed. And I thank you for everything you did for me. You know how very important you were to me.
