Kyon Hicks, 26

Kyon Hicks, a 26-year-old black man, was shot and killed Tuesday, Jan. 24, in the 1500 block of 206th Street in Harbor Gateway, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Hicks was standing in front of his apartment building with several friends about 1:05 p.m. when they got into a fight with three unknown black suspects, according to an LAPD news release.

One of the unknown people then pulled out a gun and began firing at Hicks and his friends, officials said. Hicks was struck before running a short distance and collapsing. His friend suffered a graze wound, police said.

After the shooting, authorities were called and Hicks was taken by paramedics to a hospital where he died. According to coroner's records, he suffered a gunshot wound to the back.

It's unknown if the shooting was gang-related.
