Man convicted of killing girlfriend with SUV
A jury on Tuesday found a 26-year-old Latino man guilty of murdering his girlfriend by driving his SUV into her home, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
Eduardo Villareal was convicted of the first-degree murder of Zurisaday Bonilla, 19. A jury also found Villareal guilty of six counts of attempted murder of Bonilla’s parents, three siblings and her 3-year-old child from a previous relationship, prosecutors said.
Allegations that Villareal used a deadly weapon and caused great bodily injury were also found true.
About 11:45 p.m. on Halloween in 2010, Villareal crashed his Cadillac Escalade into Bonilla’s Boyle Heights home. Bonilla, her parents, three siblings and her 3-year-old child were all home at the time.
Authorities arrived and pronounced Bonilla, who was in the bedroom, dead at the scene.
The crash also killed the couple’s 10-day-old baby, Naomi Bonilla. Villareal is due in court Friday for a status hearing on whether prosecutors will try him in the murder of the newborn.
