A story for every victim

Manuela Leticia De Leon, 34

Manuela De Leon, a 34-year-old Latina, was stabbed to death Friday, Sept. 17, in the 3000 block of Rosalind Place in Boyle Heights, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

De Leon and her husband, Celso Sente, got into a fight in their apartment kitchen about 12:15 a.m., said LAPD Hollenbeck Det. Joe Rios, who is handling the investigation. At some point Sente, a 39-year-old Latino, allegedly grabbed a knife and began stabbing his wife.

De Leon sustained several stab wounds to her right hand, left chest and left arm, according to coroner's records.

During the assault, roommates of the couple called 911, Rios said. When authorities arrived, De Leon was pronounced dead at the scene.

Shortly after the incident, Sente was seen walking down the street and he was arrested, Rios said. Shiara Dávila, assistant public information officer for the L.A. County district attorney's office, said Sente has been charged with one count of murder.

Investigators were told by the couple's roommates that every time Sente would get drunk, he would become violent with his wife. Rios said Sente appeared to be inebriated during questioning.

Sente is currently being held at the Men's Central Jail in downtown. He is being held in lieu of $1.02-million bail with his next court appearance scheduled for Oct. 1 at the Los Angeles Municipal Court.
