A story for every victim

Marietta Goodridge, 72 [Updated]

Marietta Goodridge, a 72-year-old black woman, was stabbed to death Sunday, Jan. 16, in the 4100 block of South Budlong Avenue in Vermont Square, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

The stabbing occurred at a residence near Exposition Park about 1:40 p.m., said officer Karen Rayner of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Goodridge was stabbed multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene. According to coroner's records, she also suffered blunt force trauma to the face.

Two people were being detained for questioning, but no arrests have been made, Rayner said.

Police are still investigating the circumstances of the stabbing.

The Times has contacted investigators to obtain more information about the case and will post an update as soon as possible.

[Update Jan. 25: Goodridge was a retired Veterans Affairs nurse who lived in the home with her son, said LAPD Criminal Gang & Homicide Det. Gerry Pantoja, who is handling the investigation.

Annette Harris, who was an acquaintance of the victim's son, was arrested shortly afterward and was held on suspicion of murder. The motive for the killing remains unknown, officials said.

Goodridge's cause of death appears to blunt-force trauma, Pantoja said, although the coroner's office said she died of multiple injuries.

Harris, a 53-year-old black woman, is being held in lieu of $1-million bail at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 2 at the Los Angeles Municipal Court.]
