Marqese Tann, a 36-year-old black man, was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds on Wednesday, Sept. 23, in the 4800 block of East Compton Boulevard in Compton, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department homicide investigators. 

Sheriff's deputies were called about 6:40 p.m. to a medical marijuana dispensary called Chief Keef Glo Shop about a person who was dead, said Lt. Steve Jauch. When deputies arrived, they found two men dead inside the shop: Tann, the reported owner, also known as "Wolf Da Boss" and Terrence Brown, a 53-year-old black man who is also from Los Angeles. 

Investigators didn't have a motive for the shooting Sept. 24, and Jauch said it wasn't clear how long the men had been dead. Investigators also don't know how the two victims were connected or whether Brown was a customer or employee of the shop.

"We've just started this investigation," Jauch said. "We still have lots of questions."

The green-colored storefront is in a residential area, Jauch said, but he wouldn't comment on what, if anything, neighbors said they heard.

Investigators have put a security hold on the case, which means the coroner cannot release any information publicly about the circumstances surrounding the death, or the autopsies of the deceased.

Jauch said he couldn't comment on whether weapons were found in the store, "but I can tell you there is no indication that the victims shot at anybody. There is no indication of a gun battle," he said. 

Investigators are also trying to determine who owned the shop. The website Weedmaps identified Wolf Da Boss — the name Tann used — as the owner of the shop, which was apparently named in honor of rapper Chief Keef, whose record label is called Glo Gang. 

Chief Keef, whose real name is Keith Cozart, has never been to the shop and did not own it, his manager, Rovaun Manuel, told The Times Thursday.

However, music website Complex reported that Chief Keef announced the shop's opening last year on Instagram.

Investigators also don't know who made the "person dead" call that first led deputies to the scene, Jauch said. It was a call transferred to the sheriff's dispatcher from the California Highway Patrol, he said, and investigators would like to talk to that person.
