Olataga P. Filemoni Jr., a 25-year-old Samoan, died Monday, July 28, three days after he was shot in the 3200 block of Baltic Avenue in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly before 11 p.m. on July 25, Filemoni and some friends were sitting in front of a home when a vehicle drove by and a person inside fired at the group, according to a news release from the Long Beach Police Department.
The vehicle fled north on Baltic Avenue. Police did not say if anyone else was injured.
Filemoni was hit in the torso and taken to a hospital where he was listed in critical condition, according to police. He was pronounced dead at 3:26 p.m. on July 28, said Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner’s office.
