Oran Eugene Douglas III, 37
Oran Eugene Douglas III, a 37-year-old black man, was shot several times by a Los Angeles police officer in the 900 block of West 68th Street in Vermont-Slauson and killed Sunday, August 9.
According to LAPD officials, two officers on patrol recognized Douglas, who they described as a parolee and known gang member, as they drove on 68th Street.
Officer Gabriel Holguin exited the patrol car to approach Douglas and called his name, authorities said.
Holguin told investigators that he saw Douglas holding his waist as he ran. "Douglas eventually stumbled as he drew a gun from his waistband. He then turned toward the officer with his gun, and an officer involved shooting occurred," according to an LAPD news release on the shooting.
Douglas was pronounced dead at the scene and a loaded gun was recovered from his body, officials said.
Holguin has been an LAPD officer for five years, according to authorities. LAPD Force Investigation Division is investigating the shooting.
